The End

So i've left Thailand.

After 3 years it seemed time for a change so when an opportunity in Papua New Guinea came along I grabbed it. I have to admit that Thailand had started to grind on me a bit, but it is still a great place to live. But this blog isn't about that, though i'm sure it will pop up from time to time, this blog is hopefully going to be a constant work in progress and all about Papua New Guinea, or PNG as i'll call it from now on.

My arrival was quite laid back, a day in Singapore then a 6 hour flight to Port Moresby with no delays at all. I was quite disappointed as I had been told that Air Niugini was supposed to be one if the most unreliable airlines in the world, so on arriving at the gate and finding that I only had time to read half a chapter of my book as we were departing right on time was a bit of a shock, i've been assured since then that this will probably never happen again though. On the plus side it turned out that I made the right decision when I chose not to attend the free German beer festival that was going on in Changi's terminal 2.

The flight was pretty uneventful, but it was my first look at PNG nationals, along with the most mannish female air hostess I had ever seen. She was also the most professional by not reacting to the fact that several other people seemed shocked by the mannishness and started taking pictures! And no before anyone asks, I had no batteries in my camera.

Once I had landed at Jackson's international airport in Port Morseby I passed through security without a hitch, claimed my bags, changed some currency and passed through customs, all in the same room. I had finally landed at an airport that was smaller than Vientiene international!

Got picked up and taken to my apartment for a vain attempt to get some sleep, never happened. Afterwords I ended up in my new office for about 30 mins before going back to the airport and flying to Lae, the second largest city in the country.

Spent the first week in Lae staying a Tony's folks place which was nice and did a little work by day in the Lae office, a week later I flew back and things started properly.
